It's important to prepare your child emotionally for his or her first visit. We recommend that you make your child's first dental appointment within their first year. Let them know that visiting the dentist is a positive part of growing up! Reassure your child that the dentist will be gentle, and won't hurt them. If you expect your child to react well and enjoy their first dental visit, chances are he or she will!

When you do make your first visit to Vingelis & Lee, we'll introduce your child to the dental team. He or she will be given time to see the office and get comfortable before the examination. You're more than welcome to stay with your child during the first exam, and once it's complete, we'll discuss our findings, give our recommendations and give you a cost estimate. Don't be upset if your child cries. It's normal for children to fear things that are strange to them. We'll do all we can to calm their fears as quickly as possible.

After the first visit, we suggest you stay in the reception room and viewing area. It helps us establish a direct and close rapport with your child. Our purpose is to gain your child's confidence, and with your help and cooperation, your child can have successful and stress-free dental visits for years to come!

If it becomes apparent that your child will need some type of sedation for their visit, the professionals at Vingelis & Lee Pediatric and Family Dentistry will determine which method
will work best for your child.

There are several options:

  • Topical Anesthetics

  • Mild Oral Sedation

  • Conscious Sedation

  • Nitrous Oxide

  • General Anesthetic administered at Lourdes Hospital

Whatever the method, you will be informed in detail about the benefits and risks. You'll also be given a step-by-step instructions for what you need to do to prepare your child prior to the visit and also any
care steps that need to be taken when the visit is completed.
